Historic Site: Yaocomico Village
St. Mary's City currently stands on the site of the Yaocomico village. The
Yaocomico were a part of the Piscataway confederacy under the protection
of the Tayac. The village, like many others in Maryland, was eventually
abandoned in the face of colonial encroachment, disease, and raids from
northern tribes.
A living village has been created at historic St. Mary's City that attempts in part to replicate the one that existed there when the Arc and Dove arrived.
