Historic Site: Accokeek/Moyaone
Moyaone was once a principal village of the Piscataway, and was the tribe's
seat of power when Europeans first explored Maryland in the early 17th century.
Ossuaries and evidence of pallisaded villages have been found in present-day
Piscataway National Park, which is where the village was located. It is
debated, however, whether these remains are the actual Moyaone village. Some
believe that the original village site may have been lost to shoreline erosion.
There was also a village at Accokeek, which is where the Necostans resided under the protection of the Tayac after leaving Nacotchtank.
