Education
In an increasingly global and technologically-oriented society, getting a good education has never been
more important. Long gone are the days when a high school degree was enough to ensure your future. Today,
most jobs require at least a Bachelor’s degree. To respond to this demand, more and more people are pursuing
Master’s and other advanced degrees. The Piscataway tribe is committed to promoting quality education at all
levels to our people.
Our Agenda:
SAT/PSAT Prep - no standardized test is more crucial than the SAT. With the population increasing and the number of available slots in top schools decreasing, it is imperative that our children be competitive by being well prepared for this exam. To that end, our goal is to provide free or partially-subsidized SAT and PSAT prep using the best tutors available to the tribe’s enrolled high school students.
Math and Writing Clinics - almost everyone hates math, but these days you can’t even get a marketing degree without taking at least one calculus course. Furthermore, today’s employers are demanding not only technical skills, but ‘soft’ communications and interpersonal skills in their employees. Our plan is to provide innovative math clinics that not only increase our childrens’ proficiency in the subject, but increase their genuine interest in the subject as well. We will provide writing and speaking clinics that teach effective writing skills, oral presentation skills, and conflict mediation and negotiation.
Technology Education - it is practically impossible to do anything these days without a computer or the Internet. Unfortunately, too many of our people are being left on the wrong side of the digital divide, and this has enormous consequences. Our plan is to provide free clinics and workshops in basic computer use, buying computers and accessing the Internet, using the Internet safely and reliably, and even building basic web sites.
Scholarship Program - because we are not state or federally recognized, getting access to funds for tuition, books, room, and board has been difficult for our college hopefuls. The scholarship program is aimed at filling in the gaps left by the government. Funded primarily by individual donations and institutional grants, our goal for the scholarship fund is to ease the financial burden for as many Piscataway students as possible so they can focus on their studies instead of their bills.
