Careers & Business Development
Ensuring the economic viability of our people has always been one of the tribe’s top priorities. In
the face of what is expected to be a prolonged economic downturn, our business and economic development
initiatives are targeted to help out people weather the storm and even prosper during these hard times.
Our Agenda:
Training and Continuing Education - today’s career landscape is continually evolving. To be successful, our people must be trained in fields that have a long and prosperous future. Our goal is to promote the availability of training materials, classroom instruction, and other resources that provide ready access to career paths in forward-looking, recession-resistant industries.
Career Skills Development - this initiative is particularly aimed at our youth. Knowing how to apply for a job, prepare a resume, dress for a job interview, and perform well in an interview are critical skills in career development – yet they are rarely taught in school. Our plan is to teach these critical skills through a series of resume clinics, mock interviews, workshops in online job searches, and instruction in using the Internet to research various career paths.
Entrepreneurship Initiative - our tribe is full of bright, talented, self-starting business men and women. Some have taken the exciting leap to starting their own business, while others still have some questions they would like answered before taking the plunge. The entrepreneurship initiative has two goals. The first goal is to create and publish a directory of Piscataway-owned business to encourage intra-tribal patronage. The second goal is to encourage the formation of new business by making resources available to potential entrepreneurs to answer their questions and get their businesses off the ground.
Personal Finance Clinics - managing personal finances in a way that is modern and informed has been a persistent issue for our members. Our goal is to provide a series of workshops and clinics in a wide array of topics from the fairly simple: preparing a personal budget, opening checking and savings accounts, and monitoring and establishing good credit – to the advanced: online investing, retirement planning, and advanced investment strategies.
