Piscataway Tribal Council
The Piscataway Tribal Council is a provisional governing body elected to serve the tribe until state and federal recognition are obtained. Among its duties are:
Mervin Savoy is currently the only active member of the tribal council. The other six seats on the council were declared vacant as part of a community resolution in April 2009. Plans for a special election are currently being formulated by an Elections Committee, headed by Corey Newman, which is to present its proposal by the end of 2009.
- Pursuing state and federal recognition
- Developing a tribal constitution
- Creating council by-laws
- Administering the general business of the tribe
