Donations
If you have read through the other sections of this website, you will see that the tribe is pursuing many programs. All of these programs are funded through grants and the generosity of our members.

We are implementing a challenging five-year plan to restore the vibrant community that John Smith found when he happened upon our shores. We plan to set up a scholarship fund, an eastern-style powwow, a robust series of workshops covering topics from healthcare, to dance and regalia, to entrepreneurship, to personal finance, to structured tutoring for our students. We want to bring back a new and improved summer program for our youth so they may spend their vacations increasing their knowledge of academic subjects and their own culture through a variety of innovative learning experiences.

The initiatives mentioned above only scratch the surface of our ideas, all of which will only be possible with your generous tax-deductible donation.

How Does My Donation Help?

You don’t have to have deep pockets to support the tribe. Whatever you can afford to give – even small amounts – will go a very long way and is much appreciated. Just take a look at what various donation amounts, both small and large, can accomplish:

$5 – reserves our website domain name for one year
$20 – pays travel expenses for dance class instructors for two weekends of classes
$50 – purchases all special materials needed for Piscataway Princess and Ila regalia
$100 – prints 15 copies of the ‘Native Lifestyles’ guidebook
$250 – pays for the database used to house the Piscataway Business Directory
$500 – buys all the semester’s books for a Piscataway student on our scholarship program

Who Gets my Donation, and How will it be Allocated?

Donations made through the website are considered ‘General’ donations, and are allocated depending on the relative size of the budgets of the programs being pursued that year.

To use a simplified example – let’s imagine that our 2009 budget is as follows: 10% website upkeep, 20% tribal outreach efforts, 20% powwow planning, 25% youth summer program, 25% seasonal celebrations. If you make a donation of $100, then $10 will go to the website, $20 to tribal outreach, $20 to the powwow, $25 to the summer program, and $25 to the seasonal celebrations.

For those who would like to donate toward specific programs, we will make a mail-in donation form available on this site by the end of January.

Donations are submitted to the Maryland Indian Tourism Association (MITA). MITA is a Piscataway owned and operated 501c(3) non-profit organization authorized by the tribe to collect donations and implement tribal programs. 100% of all donations to MITA go toward funding tribal programs. The head of MITA is Rico Newman, the Piscataway Conoy National Spokesman and chair of the Piscataway Conoy Business and Economic Development Committee. Please note that donations are non-refundable, and cannot be cancelled.
